Mobile Augmented Reality App, Work in Progress

Other Objects(working title) is a mobile augmented reality application that contains furniture that migrants had to leave behind in their country of origin. The app lets you virtually place those furniture in your own home. With this application, migrants can reunite with a part of their home and others can comfortably invite migrants’ furniture into their homes, and peek into the lives of those who might seem foreign. This project is an experiment for using augmented reality as a medium for storytelling, by focusing on it’s object orientedness.

Through this project I propose a way for migrants to reunite with their furniture that they had to leave behind. Augmented reality applications for visualizing a furniture catalog for e-commerce and for visualizing ancient museum artifacts are commonplace. I try to expand that experience by using augmented reality as a means to access and share intimate human stories of a near past through virtual objects. Through this project, immigrants can reunite with a part of their home, and others can comfortably invite those furniture into their homes, and peek into the lives of others who might seem foreign.
