Staff Head Design

The Starscope is designed to be the simplest form of a staff head, which can be attached to most walking sticks. The head is divided into three parts: the body, the top cover and the connecting neck. The body is a house for the electronic parts, complete with holes for sound, and the top cover is a square gem form.

The body and top parts were designed in Autodesk Fusion 360 to be laser cut, assembled and fastened with acrylic glue. The parts were laser cut out of 1/16” acrylic sheets.

The body and top was then prepared with frosting spray. The connecting neck is a rectangular piece of varnished wood that was hollowed to seamlessly connect to a walking stick and attached to the bottom panel of the body. The neck has to be customized for walking sticks of different top forms.
